COP 28

Kigali International Financial Centre (KIFC) took part in the COPE 28 event that took place from 30/11/2023 to 13/12/2023 at Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

COP 28 was the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This was the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference.

COP 28 involved discussions on various aspects of climate change mitigation, adaptation, financing, and international cooperation.

At the Rwanda Pavilion, KIFC hosted the National Taxonomy Showcase as well as an ESG Investor Roundtable, co-hosted with UNDP Rwanda.

  1. Showcase of Rwanda’s Green Taxonomy

At COP28, KIFC hosted a side event to showcase Rwanda’s Green Taxonomy, a policy instrument that aims to define sustainability criteria, foster common understanding and build trust. KIFC aims to leverage the National Green Taxonomy to attract capital for green investment in line with our positioning as a hub for sustainable finance.

Rwanda’s green taxonomy is aimed at fostering a conducive environment that will attract green investments and position the country as a sustainable finance hub.

The objective of the “Rwanda Green Taxonomy Showcase” side event was to present to the international partners, investment community and ESG practitioners the key highlights of the Taxonomy and see feedback and alignment with the international best practice.

The event increased awareness to the global investment community and ESG practitioners about Rwanda Green Taxonomy and its significance in promoting sustainable finance and ESG practices.

  1. ESG Investor Roundtable

At COP28, KIFC and UNDP-Rwanda co-hosted an investor roundtable discussion on “Rwanda – an Emerging Hub for ESG Investment” that convened different investors and key stakeholders to introduce Rwanda’s positioning as a hub for sustainable finance.

KIFC aims to position Rwanda as a hub for sustainable finance by creating a conducive environment that will mobilize resources towards ESG projects. Visitors to the Rwandan Pavilion at COP28 learnt more about Rwanda’s roadmap to becoming a sustainable finance hub.
